This book is an overall great value for established vegans and beginners.It includes all the vegan staples you have probably already seen such as black bean burgers, risotto and roasted bell peppers. It has a lot of creative options too, even if you have already found favorite recipes for those staples. Some of my favorites found from this book were the bbq bean bowl, quinoa and broccoli stew and mexican casserole... something to spice up your normal routine.My favorite thing was that it sticks to NORMAL and cheap ingredients, especially the dried goods. This is awesome if you want to try this diet but don't want to get a ton of specialized ingredients.The included meal plan lays every meal out for 6 weeks including shopping lists and nutrition facts. I like this, just feel the shopping plan could be more specific with amounts. I.e. "2 kales" "1 bottle of olive oil" but you can figure this out with the recipes and once you get used to making them it'll be easier.I like all the small details included that helps take the stress off of new vegans... what kind of beans or legumes should i buy? How long to cook or soak the different kinds, will they give me enough protein? This is all answered.The one thing I probably dislike about this meal plan and recipe book is the breakfast options are highly reliant on smoothies and sweet "meals." It does have oat-based options but I was looking for a bit more in this department. Nothing wrong with it, but just not my preference.Great book overall. I think you can get your money's worth in a month or two out of this book and would recommend the buy!
For health reasons I needed to change my diet. Much easier said than done. Well, let me tell you, Vegan Meal Prep saved my life. I am care giver to my 87 yo mother in law, who lives with us and has a number of medical concerns. Top concern is her Alzheimer's. I have diabetic neuropathy in my hands and in my feet. So running to my doctor, her doctor, hospital for this test and that test. What do you eat? Every type of fast food between, here and where I'm going. One day I found Vegan Meal Prep. I needed to go plant based, and I needed to be able to stick to it. My doctor said pick up the food, or pick out a casket. I know nothing about cooking or healthy food. To cut calories I'd order one giant burger instead of 2.Vegan Meal Prep taught me how to eat better, what to eat and when. I now set up my weekly meals on Sunday nights, after using the included Meal plans to guide my shopping. Using this book, I'm saving money, eating way healthy, and losing weight. I even slip in some veggies and other healthy items in my M I L dinner. Before, I started cooking, the only green thing she ate from the fridge, was the bologna! 😂I completely wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who wants to live!!!
This is a very comprehensive book. Not hard to read or understand...but definitely comprehensive. It breaks down all of the important information one could need when wanting to get serious about a vegan lifestyle and meal prepping. It is structured well and flows logically.I will say some of the info and the recipes are a little too ambitious for me personally. For example, I am not going to make my own vegan cheese or hummus. Call me lazy but I much rather spend the money to simply purchase those items. But that is just me.The recipes overall seem detailed but also easy to understand and follow. I have yet to try making one of them as I just got the book today. But at first sight, I would say there us something in it for everyone.The instructions on how to best store each one are super helpful.There is also a 6 week meal plan plus one shopping list per week included. Personally, I wont follow that because I do intermittent fasting and do not eat as many meals as there are in the meal plan BUT it is good for inspiration anyway.The spice mixes at the end are a cool touch. It will save time to premix those and just pull out one jar when wanting a specific flavor as opposed to flavoring each dish from scratch basically.
I have not made anything yet from this book because I am just ready to start my meal prep for next week. However, I have had a chance to look through it. The first part is packed with useful info and has lots of easy to read charts. There is a chapter on essntials, hich doesn’t really interest me, cuz I will buy store bought, but a lot of people do make their own. Has a section how how to prep with tips on freezing, containers, preparing, etc. The smoothie recipes are called “bags†and you make them and freeze in bags. That is a great idea I have never thought of. It has a few weekly meal plans and shopping lists which I am looking at now to prepare for next week. Looks like the recipes all have nutritional info listed with them. One thing I would like to see, would be to add “soy-free†to the recipes if it is soy-free. A lot of people are allergic to soy, and I cannot eat it due to breast cancer. But I will review each recipe and make substitutions if needed for the soy (I am getting good at that.). If I am pleased with these recipes, I will probably go ahead and purchase the hard copy as I prefer the book format over a Kindle format. But all in all , I think this is a great book, and am excited to get started for next week.
This book is very good at going in to information that is important for anybody to have embarking on a plant based lifestyle. It takes a comprehensive look at what makes up a balanced and healthy plant based diet,and provides a detailed meal plan. The recipes are good,and has a nice variety,while being easy enough to do for a meal plan. I recommend this book for anybody looking to save time,and eat a balanced plant based diet.
