As an adult adoptee I had heard about this book but ignored it until recently. A new friend who is a foster/adoptive mother told me about how much she loved this book - life changing she said. I had to read it. I am putting this book right up with The Primal Wound as a MUST READ book for adoptees, adoptive parents, first parents and anyone considering adoption. In actuality, it should also be read by anyone who loves an adoptee.It's a shame that I didn't read this book years ago; it might have saved me and others in my life a lot of heartache. I also wish that I could have given this to any man I ever had a relationship with. My parents really could have used this book - although I have a feeling they would have been like some of the reviewers who don't see the value because their kids are perfectly fine. Many adoptees are "perfectly fine". We're the best kids you could ever hope for, but we are dying inside. I thought of my birth family, especially my natural mother every single day of my life and my parents had no idea. I would never, ever have told them that I was unhappy, grieving, or that I wanted to know even the slightest detail about my birthfamily. I knew better than to say anything that would have hurt them. I would rather have suffered in silence than hurt my parents. Like most adoptees, I waited until my parents had both passed away, only to find my birthmom had already passed away herself.Even if you think that your adopted child is perfectly fine and that your family is A-Okay, what harm would it do to be educated about what the majority of adoptees are going through? If you really, truly love your adopted child then read this book.If you're adopted, read this book!! You will really understand yourself so much better. It's been an enormous help to me. Like I said, I wish that I had read this years ago. This will stay in my personal library and I will re-read it several more times I am sure.

Provocative, disputed depending on one's experience or perspective, but still thought provoking and very valuable.Appears grounded in the author's own experience. Research/theory cited, but also a personal reflection on the author's experience.But if the issue is relevant or of interest to you, this is a reasonable text. It is thorough, structured and informally, conversationally written.It does take a problem identification approach and thus comes across negative and to such an extent one may even seriously reconsider adopting a child of any age. (I'm beginning the process to adopt with a focus on older children/youth/teenagers and it scared me a bit.) I think that would be unfortunate, actually tragic.I don't think that is an outcome the author intends. I think she intends to be realistic and thorough as opposed to negative and discouraging and is fundamentally pro-adoption.There are some practical suggestions that should be avoided. While art and art therapy is evidenced based as being very helpful and facilitating, instructing a young child for a task to draw a picture of her/himself and then draw a hole in the center to visualize the psychological and relational hole in her fundamental self and life circumstance and personal history is really not supportable. If a child produces that kind of picture(s), unsolicited, that is clinical content and should be treated as such.My position is a family, whatever that structure looks like, but it always is fundamentally constructed of one established adult who is committed and connected in a permanent, loving, relational, reliable, expressive way to the child/youth and their safety, healing and growth, unconditionally, is ALWAYS better than a group home and foster care.I would read this as a 'for consideration or general awareness' in terms of some of the challenges that MAY arise for some adopted children, but possibly not for all children. There are just too many intervening and influencing factors, including the fundamental personality, psychology, and specific pre/post adoption experience of the adopted child/adult, as well as you, the adopting parent, whoever you are. All in all, a solid book addressing some powerful issues.

Though this is an informative book I felt guilty while reading it because I adopted my two children around 28-30 years ago when adoption was romanticized and you didn't give your kids an opportunity to grieve the fact that they were given up by their birthmother. 'Don't think my daughter has major issues from her closed adoption but, then again, her birthparents looked for her and found her! I do, however, think my grown son has issues related to his adoption but he is quiet and has never mentioned them. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to those who are adopting children today, no matter what age they are when adopted!!!

If you are at all involved in adoption - care giver, adoptee, social worker, counselor, friend - then read this. This one book will equip you with the ability to unpack your own thoughts on the matter, as well as care for those who are involved with greater empathy.

My wife and I both read the book. The author has one main point which she examines from a number of different vantages. That key point is that all adopted children have a pain or a void, a feeling of being abandoned, that will likely manifest itself in a myriad of different ways such as anger, depression, etc. She maintains that this is the case even if a child has never expressed any pain or doubts about the adoption. Our own child has known about their adoption from the beginning and never expressed any concerns. However, after reading the book we can see signs that there is some insecurity on their part. In little ways there were signs that there was something deeper (the feeling of abandonment). We're exploring that now.I gave the book 4 stars. Some might give it 5. I value what the book says but feel it could have been better organized and possibly better summarized in places. Overall, if you have an adopted child I recommend you purchase and read this book. You might be surprised about what your own children are going through and not saying anything.

Gathered some insights but a ridiculously negative take on adoption. I do not recommend for a new adoptive parent.

I wasn’t sure at first if the book was going to catch my attention and hold it. This story definitely held my attention and I wanted to find out what would happen next. The characters were relatable because whether you have plenty of money or you don’t people have their struggles and need to find the best way to get past them if possible.The book is well written. Emotions were all over the place for the characters. The chemistry between Laz and Ayla was off the charts.I recommend this great read. Follow the journey that they both take and if it leads to them being together or going their separate ways. Laz was a cop until he left the force to take a job as a ranger after his personal life suffered after a divorce from his mental ill wife. She divorced Laz and he was blindsided, he was standing by her, hoping for her to get better. A few years later, Laz was happy to be in the mountains alone. When Ayla goes to a resort in the mountains for a bachelorette party of a friend, she really didn't want to go and she is having a terriible time. Ayla gets drunk the first night and wanders into a bar, where she is told to leave. Laz was there and makes sure she gets back to the resort. The next day, Ayla is in an even worse mood and after fighting with her friends, she wanders off and gets lost. When Laz finds Ayla, she begs him not to take her back to the resort, so he takes her to his place. They have a connection and after Ayla explains she doesn't want to be at the resort and wants to be with him, Laz gives into his attractions. They have a great day, until Laz realizes he is late for work and learns Ayla was reported missing. If anyone learns Ayla was with Laz, he could lose his job and he asks he to lie. When Laz's ex-wife shows up, Ayla sees her and thinks he was lying about being married. I enjoyed this story, i thought Ayla was a little lost and wanted more out of life. I thought Laz was a good guy who had overcame a bad situation and needed to move one. I loved them together and thought they had great chemistry. Good one.

The story was engaging and I loved how Dr. Maskalyk weaved his grandfather's story when time was slow, simple, and meaningful into the demands of the emergency room with everything versus the demands of another emergency room that was simple in its infrastructure yet so complex in its needs. I do not yet know Dr. Maskalyk, but he is my cousin and his grandfather is my uncle. Uncle Michael is the last of 13 children living from an era bygone... and my cousin captures this beautifully as an anchor in his own life.

Reading this was an eye-opener, since I had little concept of the care and effort taken by a true professional detailer. It makes me wonder how many so-called professional auto detailers take similar pains to treat their work as seriously as the author. I dare say not one in ten. I will be more wary of those I hire to do detail work in the future. No wonder I have been so often disappointed in the past. The industry cries out for true professionals willing to communicate the advantages of using them to potential customers. My expectations are raised.

OMG!!! I had no idea just how much I didn't know!I was just in Home Depot this past weekend and bought "a sponge" to wash my car with - thank goodness I haven't used it yet. I'm taking it back unopened.There is so much I just had no idea about. I thought I was okay going to the auto parts store around the corner - who knew I was actually buying "products of torture" for my car's paint.Joey clearly has significant experience in the car detailing business. Previously I've gone into the auto parts store and not really known which products were best - what should I buy to take care of my car?Now I know. Joey gives a clear list of which exact products he recommends and where you can find them. This is so helpful!I am about to get a new car and this book is going to be my "car care bible".For me I have struggled with getting wax and cleaners on the black rubber / plastic parts of my car. Then it seems impossible to get rid of the mark they have left. Now I know what to do, what products to use and how to do it right.One of the most simple things I found in the book was a small change to the bucket of car wash water that I dip my sponge in. Joey recommends a simple grit grate - so ingenious, as it stops particles floating in the water from getting back into your sponge.The chapter on Common Mistakes really hit home for me - I think I have committed everyone he listed :(If you care about taking care of your car - you gotta get this book.I'm never going into an automated car wash ever again!

This is an amazing consolidation of really great insights, and specific action steps to keeping your car clean, and well maintained! Joey has done a really great job of gathering his years of experience and clearly laying out what you and I can do, cost effectively, to make our rides sparkle!Really enjoyed the stories too!!

This is a great book for the introduction of auto detailing and beginners like me. It does a great hob of covering "how to" as well as products and why you do things recommended in the book. Also it is a very easy read.

My son-in-law keeps it beside this bed for night time reading. hahaha Loves it.

I didn't realize how old this book was when I purchased it, and I came here to see if I could still return it (unfortunately not).I want to write the author and see how these people are doing today, the couple he made buy a house in 2004 so they would get rich off the equity. If you are starting late you need to be reading F.I.R.E. books, not the antiquated info in this book! Perhaps the info on how to get out of debt or get a raise is good, but honestly, if I were this author I would have either written a revision or pulled the book from shelves because it is so not appropriate for getting ahead today. I'm 38 and found much more helpful info in books about extreme early retirement and financial independence.

Wish I had discovered this book in my 30's, but even in my mid 50's I found this book invaluable, and I have hope now that it's not too late to achieve financial stability, and even independence. Very empowering, yet not unrealistic or scary. David Bach lays out sensible, doable steps to take charge of your finances and your financial future. There's hope, everyone!

This book is very motivating. I got a lot of great tips about saving money and paying off debt that I am already implementing. The book flows very easily and can be applied to anyone in any economical situation. It makes an older saver feel hopeful that his/her economic situation can improve by following the many practical suggestions offered. I did not give it five stars only because a lot has changed in the financial world since it was written ie, the ease with which to obtain mortgages, etc. No fault of Mr. Bach of course, he's done a wonderful job of getting me to save more, spend less, and chip away at debt. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who feels it's too late to get their finances in better shape.

This was written in 2006 prior to the home bubble and banks crashing, i.e. Fannie Mae, etc etc. No longer trusting of mutual fund advice or of bonds. Greening other useful advise.

In almost all of David Bach's books, he describes a file system for your financial files. I had a file system. But when the file cabinet broke, and after I started putting my important papers in folders in boxes, and then they filled up and I left them on top of a table... the paper fire hazard finally had to be dealt with. Although I didn't follow his system literally, it inspired me to scan all this rubble and organize it in my computer (about 1 month of effort). The very personal files (those with Social Security numbers and account numbers) are stored on my Iron Key. The paper in the living room is nearly gone by now, and I can find my documents all the way back to 2004 instantly and easily.If you are young, any of David Bach's books will be helpful regardless of their title. You are never too young to start saving, and he has great advice on how much, how and when to do this. Goals such as retirement and college are important. But if you just start building your financial portfolio as early as you can, you almost won't need to worry about the goals - the money will be there when you need it. David Bach also helps you to differentiate need from want, and identifies what "wants" waste your hard earned money.I recommend the Finish Rich series for everyone, young and old alike. These books are must haves!

This book taught me that I didn't need to be afraid of the fact that I had not managed my finances properly throughout my life - and that at age 61 it's not too late to start building a nest egg towards financial freedom.Bach's book is simple to follow, logical, and immensely motivational. My only regret is that several chapters talk about Institutions and support in the USA. I live in South Africa therefore these parts of the book were not relevant to me. But Bach gave me the leads to research the equivalent institutions in my own country.I recommend the book to anyone who, like me, has fooled themselves by thinking all their working lives that money is not important. Books are very basic. Just an overview. It might have been an executive summary of what the products can do. The photos make it look like it's a good size book but they are just misleading. The substance of the books are just a few pages with double spacing and pictures to make it fill about 100 pages. Most of the information could be on a product features slide show with no guts to it at all. For example, the power query section show how to create the query, select fields and return the results back to Excel. No where does it show how to modify that query. It doesn't even touch on the structure of the M code used. You can figure most of the contents out just by clicking around in the application.

the ruffles look blousier than on the picture, but looks nice and good material. Fit as expected.
