If you love chocolate or cacao, or if you feel guilty about so much chocolate indulgence, this is THE CRAVING BOOK for you ! This might just satisfy every craving you could ever have, with NO GUILT, for it's soooo good for you.

Oh my god! Let me just say that my husband (a strict meat & potatoes guy) wanted NOTHING to do with raw food....and then this book came and I can't get it back from him. Double chocolate cherry cheesecake is the current favorite, but we plan on working our way through the entire book. Such a great way to introduce raw to people at parties, they don't even know it's raw and ask for the recipe right away.

The pros: tasty recipesEasy-to-follow directions.The cons :NO index, so specific recipes are difficult to find.The same first 10 pages or so are contained in each of her books, so you pay for that over and over again if you buy more than one.Not sure if the cost-vs-benefit ratio is good. IMO, ALL her books could have been condensed into one--WITH an index!--for half the price or less than all of her books purchased separately.

Simple easy recipes. There are no pictures in the book (you're directed to check out her website to see pictures, which is rather inconvenient if you're trying to prep the chocolates in the kitchen).Nothing extraordinary or special about the recipes. But easy to follow instructions.

I was not terribly impressed with this book, but I bought it for two reasons (1- see what Kristin Suzanne's books were like, and 2-see if she had good easy chocolate recipes)I now have an idea of what her books are like: The editing and layout are haphazard, but then many self-published works are. I was disappointed with the recipes, but happy to learn about chocolate-making ingredients.This is not the worst book I have ever seen, and it does have a pretty glossy 4-color cover.

I was so excited to be able to get this book. I love her blog.So let me tell you about this book. I loved it. I can't wait to get my order of raw cacao powder and nibs so I can try some of these recipes. I am thinking I will be trying some with raw carob powder- just to get me by until my order gets here.The book has 5 chapters. The first chapter is titled Raw Basics. It covers as it says the basics but also a list of equipment needed (or enjoyed as a raw foodie), ingredient descriptions, basic recipes for nut/seed milks and raw condiments. My favorite part of this chapter is her tips. I learned a lot. My favorite tip is for doubling recipes. I double, sometimes quadruple a recipe for my large family so this was good info.The second chapter covers Raw Chocolate. You get a brief history of chocolate and learn why it is good for you. She also covers the different raw chocolate products available and other special ingredients. Chapter three covers chocolate drinks. I can't wait to try the Creamy chocolate vanilla milk , and the Chocolate holiday spice nog.In chapter four she covers snacks, soup, salad dressing, crackers and breakfasts. A lot of great recipes to choose from. Several popped off the page at me: Chocolate powered oatmeal, Power packed trail mix, Chocolate chia crackers, Mesquite spiced chocolate brazil nut crumble and Chia chocolate pudding snack to name a few..In the final chapter she covers desserts. Yum! How about Goddess cream cake , Chocolate pumpkin pie, Pure rush chocolate and Fun chocolate banana plant leather. It is hard to choose just one recipe that I can't wait to try.I learned a lot about raw chocolate. Like how it is loaded with antioxidants. I also learned that pure chocolate has heart health benefits. "The flavonoids (organic compounds) found in cacao can help prevent clogged arteries and lower blood pressure."If you love chocolate like we do and are looking for healthy vegan recipes this book will deliver! Yes it is a raw book but I believe that even if you are not a raw foodie you can benefit from getting more raw food into your diet. Besides doesn't it make you feel less guilty eating chocolate when you know it is good for you? You will not be disappointed with this book.

Absolutely any form of chocolate that you love has a healthy, yummy version in this wonderful recipe book packed with lots of recipes and ideas! Starting with Chocolate Drinks and Shakes, Chocolate for breakfast, snacks, treats, cookies, cakes, sauces, ice creams, cheezecakes and even make your own variety of chocolate bars! Whew! - where to begin! I also like that Suzanne gives a clear overview of the versatile RAW chocolate forms (used in the recipes) and other ingredients that enhance raw chocolate treats. As always, Kristen's recipes are QUICK and delicious! Be sure to check out her website for irresistible photos and her informative blog. I've really enjoy all the books I've gotten from Kristen, and this one is no exception! I love the fact that I can enjoy raw desserts and chocolate and not feel guilty! Instead I feel happy about the nutritious and delicious treats. As usual, Kristen comes up with great and unusual flavor combinations - i.e. pumpkin and chocolate. Chocolate Pumpkin Pie was the first recipe I tried and it was fabulous! The Chia Chocolate Pudding Snack is one of my new favorites, too. I really like that this book isn't all desserts, but there's smoothies, milks, snacks, crackers, breakfast goodies, and more. Who knew chocolate was so versatile?! I love the recipes in this book and definitely recommend it for anyone who loves chocolate!

Book arrived in great condition. Tragic story of the multiple things that Mariatu Kamara endured, such as witnessing horrors of War and being raped and having her hands cut off by rebels. Yet she perseveres. One of the beautiful quotes in her book she says how she doesn't have hands so that she might touch others through her heart. You will definitely need to have some tissues when you read this book or perhaps wipe your eyes on your shirt. It is hard to believe how horrible the world is and reading some of the things that happened in this book to this young women at such a very young age. She perseveres and in reading her book, and in listening to her story, hopefully we can each do our tiny part to be better and make the world better.

I was introduced to this book through the book "the End of Life Book Club." Having read "Long Way Gone" by Ishmeal Beah a few years ago, it was interesting to know that the author of this book and he had once met. This book is from the opposite experience tho both were children - he a child forced to be a rebel soldier in Sierra Leone during the 1990's and Mariatu Kamara a female child amputee survivor of these soldiers. Theirs is a country so different from mine that it is hard to imagine a life of such poverty and harsh treatment much less the constant fear of being attacked by merciless soldiers. You will find this an inspirational and eye-opening book. It made me extremely grateful for the comfortable middle-class life I have led in the United States. It is good that one of the many angels Mariatu found along her journey led her to write this account of her young life so that those of us much more fortunate can appreciate and learn from the struggles of poverty and the cruelties that the many less fortunate have faced.

I have found several autobiographies by individuals who have survived some of the worst atrocities in the world to be somewhat egotistical in that their stories border on fiction [can you remember whole conversations when you were 3 and 4 years old?]. However, Ms. Kamara's story was very realistic, without a grandiose sense of self. Her story rings of true honesty, portraying her in a most realistic way: she tells us her faults as well as her ability to survive and be insightful. It was a quick read [one night!], mostly because I found myself unable to put it down. I would have liked to understand a bit more about the Canadian family and their motives for basically abandoning her [even though it appears to have been for the best] - yet it appears that even Ms. Kamara herself is not completely sure why. What her story has done for me is to read more about Sierra Leone and its history and wars - which is what I feel any good autobiography should do - inspire the reader to find out more.

Bite of the Mango is a good book. I appreciated what appeared to be a very honest story of what happened to this victim of the civil war in Sierra Leone. I felt that she gave a three dimensional picture of herself. She was a girl who was, at times, incredibly courageous and at other times very fearful. As a reader, I felt that I was made to understand both sides of her personality. I don't think that the book's purpose was to present explanations for the cause of the civil war and the incredible amount of savagery. But, the lack of background information was, for me, a shortcoming. I read this book in combination with Ishmael Beah's memoir, A Long Way Gone, and I would recommend reading the two books together.

I read about this book in "The End Of Life Book Club". This is the story of Mariatu who had lived a life of poverty in Sierra leone. She tells us the story of her village where she tells us she had been happy. However at the age of twelve, she is raped by an older man. In this same time frame, news of rebels sweep her area, and the people would hide in the bush for days, weeks, and months. Finally, she and her family are caught, and Mariatu ends with her hands cut off by rebels after watching her village burned and people killed.In her book, written with a co- author, Mariatsu asks that we bear witness to the war, to the poverty, and to the need in Sierra Leone. She doesn't crow about her own courage, although she is extraordinarily brave. She doesn't stoop to the maudlin. She shares her own times of darkness and depression when she judges herself coming short by her own measure; although not by mine.Finally she offers us the chance to bear witness.

This book is both heartbreaking and inspiring. This young girl's story brings home the horrors of war on children and the unbreakable human spirit that survives. It also shows the importance of international and personal involvement needed to help those who suffer. Highly recommended!

I found the book hard to follow as if someone had transcribed it incorrectly in English. The book did not flow well to me and left a lot of important parts out not giving a full understanding of her experience. I loved the book A Long Way Gone and decided to read this as a follow up to hear one of the victim's stories but I had a hard time finishing this book. It just wasn't a good read.

This book was a nice, quick read. Very interesting and would recommend to anyone.

(2.5 stars) This was a 2-star book for me that I'm giving 3 stars. After all, I've read almost all the previous books in Organ's Penny Green series so I know by now not to expect all that much from them. So why did I read it? (1) It was only 99 cents at the time I ordered it. (2) I was hoping that Scotland Yard detective James Blakely might just possibly be a victim of the Bermondsey Poisoner of the title. That would have made my day.No such luck. James is still alive at the end of this entry in the series and one assumes he'll show up in the next one, if only just to torture me. Then just stop reading them already, you may say. Yeah, I know I should. But one thing this series has going for it is the amount of research the author puts in and the notes at the end. Another thing is that they are edited well. In comparison to many e-books, these have few-to-no punctuation, grammar and spelling errors. And the mysteries themselves are based loosely on real crimes author Emily Organ has come across in her research. And the price is economical, so some bang for your buck.But one thing the books don't have going for them is the characters' lackluster development and their superficial relationships, and the stiff, painful. awkward dialogue. The overall quality of the writing is merely competent.The mystery this time revolves around what seems to be a Black Widow serial poisoner of her husbands. Yes, I did say "husbands" in the plural. All the murders have taken place in Bermondsey over the past eight years or so and all involve the use of arsenic. This most recent murder in 1844 catches Penny's interest and off she goes to investigate. Naturally, James Blakely, Scotland Yard detective, will also be on the case. Naturally Penny's heart will skip a beat every time James shows up. Naturally, they will find their usual fumbling way to a resolution of the mystery.In addition to this mystery, Penny will be facing several issues in her personal life. Francis, her librarian suitor, is off to South America to look for her missing father; her sister is considering divorcing her husband and the father of her children; the editor of the newspaper she works for is replaced by an incompetent nephew of the owner; and James, for whom Penny's heart spends a lot of time skipping, is soon, very soon, to marry. (Why Penny's heart skips so much around James is a puzzle to me. He may be handsome, but he has the personality of a turnip and the sleuthing abilities of Inspector Clouseau.)The murder mystery is somewhat interesting. There are a few red herrings to keep the reader on his/her toes a bit, albeit nothing excessively clever or sophisticated. And the personal side of things continues to annoy me. Penny and James are insipid characters much of the time. I do hope Francis, the librarian, eventually comes back from South America and knocks some sense into P & J.

Love this series set in Victorian times and featuring working class H and h. He is an inspector with Scotland Yard, and she is a newspaper reporter, one of the few females in that profession in these early days of women’s suffrage and rights. Each book in the series features a complex mystery, usually starting with a murder (or murder spree as in this one). The H and h find themselves working together as their respective jobs put them on the trail of the criminal(s) at large. There is a huge cast of interesting secondary characters that make up the fictional world of the H/h including extended family, work colleagues, etc. The H/h met in Book 1 and have found a growing attraction as the series has advanced. The pair reach a turning point in this book, but there is clearly much more to come. One of the most enjoyable aspects of the series is the author’s grounding the action in the historical context of the times. The characters reflect the thinking and trends of this exciting era of discovery, new inventions, and seemingly limitless possibilities. The descriptions of locations, work settings, and daily life are incredibly vivid and add such depth and energy to the stories. Always look forward to the next installment!

I pre-ordered this because I was invested in the characters and needed to know what happened next in their lives. There is a good balance between the main storyline of the poisoner, and the love interest. I had to keep reminding myself that this is set in the 19th century since emotions are so stilted and muted. The merry-go-round hunt for the poisoner was quite interesting. Unfortunately I latched on to a question asked in innocence halfway through that pointed to the murderer - that is what happens when you are an avid reader of the genre! The ending is good to keep readers hooked onto the lives of Penny, Francis and James and I will probably buy the next one to see what develops.

Really enjoyed the first books of this series; but then the books began devolving into “Will he or won’t he marry.” I would’ve hoped the heroine would have become comparably bored with the question, as well ( at least out of self respect). Really no depth to the question or the reasoning. The man has no spine, and the woman sits and waits. Bleh.The entire subplot might make an interesting story if the characters were more fleshed out ( including the fiancé, the families, and society’s reaction). But that is not the genre this book is written for. The story is to be a thrilling mystery with tones of romance. The romance has taken over and is boring.The mystery portion of the books flows nicely but a bit predictable. Not enough to hold me or lead me to read the next book in the series.

Yay! This story has all of the twists and turns we've come to expect from Penny. I did note that her coworkers seem less sexist and way more sympathetic. I hope they remember their Victorian values in the next book, but it was nice to see them rally together as a team. I wish Mr. Sherman would have opened up a bit more, at least to Penny in private as he's the most mysterious character in the main cast. Hopefully, this means we'll find out what happened at the baths or how he's getting on - does he go back or are there alternatives?This installment did an excellent job of paying off previous setups while leaving enough open loops to make me want more. If you're just now discovering this series, you're in for a great binge.I'm on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happens next!

Great tennis instruction book. Covers many areas of tennis that are not normally all found in one book. The tactical and emotional sides are very well done with helpful information. The author has obviously coached at a very high level. This is the kind of book you will want to read cover to cover or just open it up anywhere and you will find it to be a good read if you are a serious tennis player. Championship Tennis is a super tennis resource book to have on hand. I'm sure I will revisit it often and even take notes from it from time to time. I have read a lot of tennis books and this one is unusual in it's quality. I highly recommend it. Definitely worth its price.

My 10 and 11 year old are starting to play tennis competitively and I bought this book as a way to supplement what they were getting outside of their regular practices. My wife who is a former collegiate player is constantly sharing information from this book with our girls regarding various aspects of their games. If you are serious about improving your game, take a look at this book.

Frank's wisdom and insight into the game of tennis are akin to theorems in geometry: vital and necessary to a problem's solution. The clarity and ease with which he guides the parent/player through the necessary steps to achieving high-level tennis makes implementation a breeze. I spend lots of time in bed due to my pain and suffering. I found drawing and coloring to be a good tool to help get my mind off my misery. Spending time on meditating on the Word of Christ while coloring is a wonderful way to focus on devotion to the Sacred Heart of Christ. The quality of the paper is think enough that I don't have any bleed through unless I leave my pen in one place for too long.

This is such a beautiful coloring book with super detailed pages. I imagine it's going to take me months to finish this one. The paper is high quality and the cover is beautiful. I plan to purchase all of the drawn to faith coloring books. I hope someday they'll make a coloring/journaling Bible in the NAB translation!

Not a very big book but the quality was very nice. Nice thick pages so ink leakage definitely wouldn’t be a problem. Made a perfect gift (with some chocolates 😉) for or religious education teacher.

Great images and great for using markers! Single paged so it won't bleed through. My friend loved it! Liked that it had pages at the end for prayers and notes.

I have recently started coloring for stress relief. It is nice and relaxing to sit in the evening with the family and I find that I can enjoy it more if I am coloring. For some reason I feel like if I am sitting, I need to be doing something. I ordered the Color The Gospel: Catholic Coloring Book for this purpose. I figure that I can at least be inspired and reflect on the scripture while I am coloring. It at least makes me feel better about sitting and not accomplishing more than a colored page.The Color The Gospel coloring book is what the author calls Sunrise/Sunset. This means that each scripture picture has two copies. One is white with black drawing (SUNRISE) and the other is black with white drawing (SUNSET). The SUNSET version reminds me a lot of the black velvet fuzzy posters you can buy for children. It just is not fuzzy.None of the pictures are especially complicated to color. I really like this. Who wants to be stressed out trying to color when you are doing it to relax? I have found that the SUNRISE pictures work well with colored pencils and the SUNSET pictures really stand out with markers. Each of the pages are one-sided with a black design on the back. If you wanted to tear them out, you do not waste a picture on the back. This is definitely a plus. Also, if you use markers, you don't risk the markers bleeding through and messing up the picture on the back. I tried using markers on the SUNSET picture and could not see where any of the markers bled through. There are no marks on the black back or on the next picture. Also, the black on the NIGHT picture did not smear into my markers. Each of the pages are thicker than regular paper but not as thick as cardstock. Intersectionality as an idea arose out black feminism as black women understood that it was not enough to understand the differentials of power and the effects of oppression that came from being a black, or being a woman. These identities come together to shape people and institutions and the power relations between them. Also, as an analysis that arises on the receiving end of unjust uses of power, it is constantly connecting theory and praxis–reflection and action to pursue justice.In this work, subtitled “An Introductory Guide,” the authors apply this approach to doing theology. They contend that much of the church’s theological scholarship has been done by white, male, Euro-Americans and reflects our social location. Furthermore, some of the theological work that has been done in resistance to this culturally dominant group, like liberation theology, or feminist theology, often is along a single axis of ethnicity, or gender, and is not cognizant of the multiple ways different aspects of identity are shaped by power relations.The authors introduce us to this approach first by giving some of the history that I touched on above of the development of intersectional analysis. They then illustrate intersectionality as it relates to theological ideas with their own narratives.The third chapter then describes what it means to do intersectional theology. One of the key proposals here is that intersectional theology is a “theology of indeterminacy” rather than one that articulates absolute truth claims. Practicing intersectional theology involves “bracketing” our own understanding to enter into the logic of others’ frameworks. It recognizes that theological work is done in a context and asks how our own interpretive community has influenced our interpretations. It forces one to examine whether one is using a single axis of one’s identity and muting others. Oriented toward justice, intersectional theology looks at how a theology either supports or challenges inequities.Chapter four explores reading the Bible intersectionally, and this I found quite helpful. They use the example of the book of Ruth, looking at the different identities of Ruth, the widowed Moabite woman immigrant, Naomi, the bereft Jewish mother unable of her own to assert her inheritance rights with no male offspring, and Boaz, the male, Jewish landowner.Chapter five turns to the practice of intersectionality, both in terms of the pursuit of justice, and fostering the intersectional church. They advocate for a church that is fully intersectional and inclusive along all the axes of identity discussed including age, race, sexual identity and orientation, economic status and more.There is much here that I appreciate. First is the recognition that we do not do our theological work in a vacuum but that it may well reflect one’s various axes of identity. Listening to those who are reading scripture who are not white, not male, not Western has opened my eyes to things in the biblical text to which I’ve been oblivious because of my own social location. Recognizing the complexity of the intersections of race, gender, orientation, and other aspects of our identity and how the mix reflects our experience of power and how we hear scripture, challenges the assumptions I make and my awareness of who “we” are together as the global body of Christ. Learning to “bracket” and incarnationally enter into the lived experience and theological frameworks of others seems crucial to developing the capacity to move beyond our identities to reflect what it means truly to be the body of Christ.At the same time, I do find myself with some questions as I consider this proposal. One has to do with the authors’ comments about Karl Barth (p. 14). They are critical of Barth’s focus on the Bible alone and de-valuing context and social location. Yet it seems that it is precisely Barth’s understanding of the Bible that enables him to forcefully challenge and resist the social location of the Third Reich and the Christian nationalism of the German church in the formulation of the Declaration of Barmen, even though this was the context and social location out of which he theologized.I also wrestle with the language of a “theology of indeterminacy” which sounds like another way of speaking of the “pervasive interpretive pluralism” that Christian Smith has observed in his critique of “biblicist” Protestant Christianity. At times, intersectionality seems to hold out hope for different communities recognizing more truly the manifold revelation of God in Christ, and reflecting that in the mosaic of identities reconciled in Christ. Yet, the question arises of what we do when we have opposing interpretations, even when interpreters from different communities have bracketed, carefully listened, and still at the end of the day differ.I found this a thought-provoking work. While I cannot embrace every conclusion or praxis advanced in this work, it does make me both more reflective about how my own context and various aspects of my identity shape how I read scripture and do theology. It made me want to listen more to voices outside my own social context.
