I have several Finance texts and this is one of a few that I still reference after several years (in addition to Principles of Corp Finance - Brealey & Meyers). I would consider this an intermediate to advanced level text. If this is your first text on investments, you will likely find yourself re-reading paragraphs and working through calculations. I would not recommend this text to someone who is looking to learn how to buy investments or just re-balance their portfolio. But if you want a solid understanding of the theory behind investment products - this is the text. I have other read other investment books and found that I would end up referencing this text for certain concepts, which were explained much more clearly to me.

It was not obvious that this was the Indian version of the textbook. The title/edition is the same and the primary 3 authors are the same. Although compared with US version, the chapter numbers vary and most (if not all) of the questions/exercises do not match...making it extremely hard to align with class expectations. I tried to tough it out with this version once I realized it after 3 weeks...although suffered due to the question/exercise mismatch. Buyer beware...if you need it just for the text/information, then this is likely a great purchase...if you need it for a class or for the exercises, then do not purchase.

There are two hardcover versions of this edition available online. The other version has a slightly different cover, and is over $100.I had to get the 10th edition of this text for my investment analysis class, and I'm so glad I found this version because it's the exact same. Though the chapters are in a different order.

Hey Guys and Gals, Despite the Fact that I attended State Universities, always loyal to a State University, came across thisText from NYU in Manhattan.Very Good Solid Introduction for both Novice Students and Non -Finance Majors to receive a grounding inthe Intro. to Finance. Zvie Bodie does a fine Job at making the Chapters Real and Understandable and has some very goodCase Studies to supplement at the end of each Chapter. Wish the State Colleges and Universities would use some of the Texts that the Ivy League Institutions areproviding their Student's with.

Bargain, even the Excel stuff is available. This seems to be the classic academic "Investments" book, as referenced by any investing course I've seen.Tough sledding, but so far the deepest, up to date, and best.

The book covers the subject matter well. I think the authors do a fine job of explaining different investments. However, I purchased the digital edition and it does not come with the additional online resources. I was very disappointed by this because the text links directly to the Mcgraw Hill online learning center which provides excel templates which are useful in doing the homework and investment analysis. It does not state anywhere in the information that you do not get the online access codes. I would recommend the physical copy so you can get the access code. I usually prefer e-books as it is easier to carry them and have all the books you need for classes in one place but this is just another example of how buying books online over complicates the process of picking the right book.

I really do not care for this text. It is out of date, and the presentation of the information is over complicated. It does not make the point of lessons clear with out having to purchase the additional lab to work along with the text.

Read the first chapter and it is sweet !!. Will give further updates as I proceed through the chapters.

This edition of Stones of Venice fills a real need: enough of the whole to give the reader a sense of continuity and arc of Ruskin's argument, but without the countless digressions and details. We get a good lesson in architecture, especially in the virtues of the gothic arch; we get the historical account of the Byzantine, Gothic, and Renaissance styles; and we see Ruskin's moral and historical purposes, as he tells the story of Venice as a "rise and fall" narrative. There are some surprising omissions, namely, the famous excerpted passage from "Nature of the Gothic." But the editor, I think, wisely left that out, keeping everything focused on the historical perspective of Venice; and besides, it's so frequently found in collections of Ruskin's writings. So the immense work is boiled down to about 250 readable and engaging pages.

This is abridged version, which is perfectly OK for most of us, as much of the complete version consists of very detailed and hard-to-follow architectural analysis. Some of the writing is brilliant and inspiring. I imagine some will take issue with Ruskin's basic thesis, that art and civilization have been on the decline since somewhere in the early 14th century. A lot of interesting history, well worth the journey.

This edition is a highly abridged version of this classic. Many of Ruskin's best passages have been completely removed. This should have been stated up front in the description of the book, but it is not.

The book printing was terrible, shame on the printers and shame on You for not overseeing the quality of merchandise you carry.I refused to give my opinion before so that maybe I could be more diplomatic but I am still disturbed.Now...WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

You can't go two sentences without finding words erroneously mashed together without a space separating them. The kindle edition isn't worth a dollar for howannoying it isto attempt to read it withall the missingspaces. Whoever digitized this needs to get their act together.

Watch out - extremely Victorian writing style. Many disagree with Ruskin but the fact remains that he delivers an aesthetic algorithm that prepares the reader to think about architecture and other art forms.

I am an octogenarian and have been reading Westerns from my teen years and L'Amour still keeps me glued to his stories The Stories are of reasonable length and the language makes for easy reading. If you are a Western buff , then L'Amour's expertly takes you into the canyons and and bluffs, beside the cool creeks and the dusty trails. Relax and ride your mustang under the Western sun.

Historical fiction, but accurate to the culture and time . No "political correctness " here, but a good honest look into the past.

I have read/am reading Collected Short Stories Vols. 1-3 and enjoying very much. This volume just doesn't sound like the Louis L'Amour i know.

I have read all of L'Amours Sackett novels and I'm reading his other novels now, but sometime, I just want to read a short store. I hop, skip and jump around his books. I only found one that was just all right, but most of them are great.

Lou Kasischke was perhaps the last person to turn around on Mount Everest during the infamous storm on May 10th, 1996. Of the various accounts of the disaster (8, I believe), his I is a breath of fresh air. Of the five I've read previously, most focus on freak accidents of weather as well as ill-advised person decisions. While Kasischke tends to these to the best of his knowledge, the enormous difference between his perspective and others is his willingness to criticize decisions made by expedition leadership, namely Rob Hall. Kasischke explains Hall's perfect safety record of decision-making on Everest was one of the reasons he (Lou) joined the expedition in the first place, and the business-driven decision to include an on-duty journalist may have swayed his argument at more than one critical moment. Kasischke is equally critical of the equipment choices of the expedition, saying he chose not to use the particular oxygen system provided. He points out that some of the more experienced Himalayan climbers turned around the day of the disaster, and speculates what rescuers from other expeditions must have thought when watching Hall and Fischer's climbers through telescope and listening to radio traffic.Perhaps hindsight is 20/20. Kasischke just published his account in 2015, 19 years after the incident. Aside from being able to mull it over day after day, that is absolutely enough time to convince one's judgment in one direction or the other, which is probably an advantage when publishing, essentially, a response to others' accounts, or at least an alternate conclusion. While I enjoyed the other perspectives, especially Gammelgaard's and the first half of Weathers', I have never been approached convinced that any one account had nailed the exact moment(s) when things went wrong. Kasischke's arguments are well-formulated and convincing, although admittedly it's difficult to say 20 years later whether or not they are the most accurate.Personally, I believe this account is the most informative to the inquisitive climber who is also a dedicated student of leadership and group decision-making. I would not recommend this book as the only account of Everest 1996, as I feel that it works best in comparison and I would speculate that it was intended to be this way. I did not recommend this book to my mother for her book club when she asked for something about Everest 1996 incident; I told her they should go with Krakauer for a general good read.

This writer recorded his thoughts but waited 20 yrs after he wrote them to publish. I enjoyed this book more than any other book I read about that tragic season. It is written as if he was talking to you - or like you or I might tell it. Very personal and gives little details I've never heard any other writer give! I read all these books about mountaineering, about tragedies on these mountains.In warning - It is written Only from his and his team's experiences/perspective with Facts, he writes about Rob Hall's team.Doesn't speculate or intrude on the privacy of Scott Fischers team or attempt to fill in his knowledge with other people's versions, just what his team experienced.I've read all the books about that tragedy - This book put everything together in a way none of the other did.Thank you to Mr. Kasiscke for this book. It was inspiration for me.

Commercial guided expeditions for risky endeavors are more common than ever. So it is interesting and useful to have a rational account presented of the decision making of this survivor, and so far as he can relay it, by Rob Hall, as to why this expedition went so wrong. If you ever join an expedition with similar life threatening risks, it might be useful to you.Some of what might have been motivating Hall is information I had not read before. What motivated the author was love, responsibility, and a desire to return alive and whole to family -- when he could clearly see this expedition was taking the level of risk to an unimaginable level.But why was it raised to that level? I've never understood why Hall continued to guide his group so late, when he knew if they went to summit they were going to run out of oxygen before they returned to the oxygen cache. Apart from the issues of daylight, weather, relative strength, etc, the logistics of oxygen, for those using it, were incompatible with success with that timetable. Hall had to know it, particularly for Hansen - who'd had a problem crashing in the previous year. Hearing Mr. Kasischke relate his problems with his oxygen system, added to complaints from others, made me wonder if that gear was flawed. A bad oxygen system would contribute to the poor decision making.Kasischke relates his own psychology of why he climbs, why he chose the Hall group, his disappointment when Hall made decisions counter to the reasoning he chose him in the first place, and when and why he broke with Hall's leadership when he determined it was fatally flawed. I think all these are useful for anyone who might need to make similar decisions in the future. Even if survival is not part of the end result - we all have to choose who to follow, why, when to follow, and when to leave.In terms of content, this narrative is heavy on philosophy and less heavy on daily details of the expedition, personalities and color. That doesn't mean it isn't there, because it is. But that's only half the tale, the rest is philosophy. And Mr. Kasischke is discreet. Having been rudely surprised himself when Krakauer's ratings of his teammates appeared in an Outside Online web interview - something the members of the team didn't expect to have discussed or reported on -- Kasischke is careful to respect his teammate's privacy. As a reader, I respect that too, but I confess I had less of an immediate feel of the places and people at times, due to that. Still, the last chapter, where he goes into some of what he suspects was Hall's reasoning for the summit attempt was fascinating and something I had never read elsewhere.This book also gave a great sense of the truly frigid experiences of high camp after the summit attempt, how pinned down everyone was by the storm and how difficult survival was even for those who made it back to camp. I can completely understand why, having survived this, the author chose to hang up his crapons after this expedition. I am glad, though, that he didn't hang up his pen, and that we have this account.All in all, if you are interested in Himalaya expeditions, Everest, or just this particular expedition, this is a book that you have to purchase.

While I'm sure the author did extensive research before writing this book, it never really took off for me the first third of the book was dreary with the main characters traipsing around, it got a little better in the middle, but still very wordy, it's unfortunate, what could be an exciting story is mired down in just too many words! Even the final climactic fight scene loses momentum in pages and pages of descriptive text. All the prayers that are scattered through the book detract as well.

The whole area of relics astounds me, to venerate body parts? The Cathloic Church has much to answer for in leading the Faith astray. The truth was preserved in remnants passed down through the years, beneath the fallible doctrine of the 'church' over The WORD.

Interesting moment in the “Dark Ages” supported by historically reasonably accurate interpretations. The author in the afterword gives a sense of perspective useful even in modern society. Worthwhile read.

This book was a big disappointment after the first book. Surprised because I love this author.
