I have EVERY World Almanac and Book of Facts since 1961. From time to time I refer to one of the older ones.There isn't much I can say about this book other than the fact that, at least to me, it is an indispensable reference, one which I would not want to be without.Yes you can find a lot of information on line but the tables and information contained in this book, along with the speed with which you can find whatever information you wish, make this book far better and easier to use than looking up the same information on the web.At least, that is my opinion.I always pre-order the book from Amazon soon after it is listed here. Invariably, during the pre-order period, the price goes down (perhaps even just for one day) but Amazon's pre-order guarantee ensures that I will always pay the lowest price offered.Even in a day in which reference books appear to be growing obsolete, I HIGHLY recommend this book to all persons.I thank you for reading this and for considering my opinions.Lawrence H. Lots of information but the print is so itty bitty that even with my good eyes I have to use a magnifying glass to read it.

My roommate devours these fact-filled type books and had been asking for the newest World Almanac. Just received it today and he was stoked. He immediately started to read it. Not sure if I will ever see it again. For those that enjoy the World Almanac series, the newest 2019 is now out and available.

Always well researched, but the print is ridiculously small! The CIA Fact Book is a comparable book.Countries' GDP should always include PPP numbers, the real number.

Hard to figure how they update and add info every year and the book is still about the same size. My friend who loves to read facts-as-relaxation enjoys the occasional NEW Almanac I get him for Christmas.

This book has a lot of information on many subjects. I don’t watch a lot of news these days so I’m catching up on a lot of facts. The print could be a bit bigger, but I’m 71 and wear glasses and I don’t have trouble reading it. Maybe my experience reading my stash of old paperbacks has honed my ability to read small print.

My husband has had one of these every year dating back to the 1960s. This is more than a collection of data- it's information laid out in a way that will keep you flipping through for more. Every time I pick this up I find something new. Keep this one beside your chair and you'll be surprised how often you dip in.

My 13-year-old son has every version of this going back to 2015, and then asked me to buy the latest one so it must be good.

This book is amazing. It is simple and to the point and offers key steps and questions to help you and your spouse get on the communication page together. I have a degree in psychology, so I know how in depth communication skills can go, but they made it easy for anyone to understand and implement. My husband has A.D.D. yet he was able to stay focused and listen to the audible book. Together we listened to the chapters each night, answered the questions, talked about our answers, then implemented the steps. It was a bit challenging at first, perhaps even awkward, but we soon were able to really hear each other and communicate with an open mind. We have been married for 16 years and have 5 children, but this book would be great for any couple, at any stage in their marriage. Just don't give up, maintain consistency and you will reach your goals.

I bought this for my husband for Valentine's Day. We usually have a hard time communicating and this book was really helpful. We read it together and discussed it as well read it. We have been married 10 years and this is still really helpful.

I highly recommend this book if you have trouble opening up and finding the words to express yourself to your spouse. It may seem common sense to some people, but they have some really good questions to ask yourself and your spouse to make for a better relationship.

If you are wandering what are good and bad habits, this book is the one! I especially love it because they give the bad habit then give their personal example of what they were doing. There was one in particular where the wife used to talk bad to her husband and other people mad comments about it which made her realize she had a problem too. I found that I’m not always right and I have things to work on too. There’s a perfect example of contempt and how each other communicate truly effects one another. The book is so interesting I finished it in a day. Def a great buy. Thanks you guys!

Want a taste of real Islam? This is it. I've read other books of hadith (sayings) but this one, which covers what are called "Holy hadith", sayings of God reported from his various prophets and other mystics, is beautiful. The sayings are simple and direct prescriptions for a sweet spiritual life. I bought the paperback English version and then discovered that the hardback version also includes the Arabic as well as the English. So I bought that too! The translations are great. The lettering is very readable. I'm glad I found this. Peace & Blessings to you.

That was such a beautiful book what is better than reading the words of Allah the most merciful beautiful subhanallah.

Im very satisfied with this purchase however Id much rather like to find one that is expounded on by orthodox scholars such as al-Ghazali, Imam Malik, Imam Hanafi, or ibn Arabi himself. These are just raw ahadith but theyre still good to read and contemplate on during the day.

Ibn Arabi is very important scholar whose ideas are sometimes challenging. I liked this text, but I wish it included the Arabic text. Otherwise i would recommend.

As an adult adoptee I had heard about this book but ignored it until recently. A new friend who is a foster/adoptive mother told me about how much she loved this book - life changing she said. I had to read it. I am putting this book right up with The Primal Wound as a MUST READ book for adoptees, adoptive parents, first parents and anyone considering adoption. In actuality, it should also be read by anyone who loves an adoptee.It's a shame that I didn't read this book years ago; it might have saved me and others in my life a lot of heartache. I also wish that I could have given this to any man I ever had a relationship with. My parents really could have used this book - although I have a feeling they would have been like some of the reviewers who don't see the value because their kids are perfectly fine. Many adoptees are "perfectly fine". We're the best kids you could ever hope for, but we are dying inside. I thought of my birth family, especially my natural mother every single day of my life and my parents had no idea. I would never, ever have told them that I was unhappy, grieving, or that I wanted to know even the slightest detail about my birthfamily. I knew better than to say anything that would have hurt them. I would rather have suffered in silence than hurt my parents. Like most adoptees, I waited until my parents had both passed away, only to find my birthmom had already passed away herself.Even if you think that your adopted child is perfectly fine and that your family is A-Okay, what harm would it do to be educated about what the majority of adoptees are going through? If you really, truly love your adopted child then read this book.If you're adopted, read this book!! You will really understand yourself so much better. It's been an enormous help to me. Like I said, I wish that I had read this years ago. This will stay in my personal library and I will re-read it several more times I am sure.

Provocative, disputed depending on one's experience or perspective, but still thought provoking and very valuable.Appears grounded in the author's own experience. Research/theory cited, but also a personal reflection on the author's experience.But if the issue is relevant or of interest to you, this is a reasonable text. It is thorough, structured and informally, conversationally written.It does take a problem identification approach and thus comes across negative and to such an extent one may even seriously reconsider adopting a child of any age. (I'm beginning the process to adopt with a focus on older children/youth/teenagers and it scared me a bit.) I think that would be unfortunate, actually tragic.I don't think that is an outcome the author intends. I think she intends to be realistic and thorough as opposed to negative and discouraging and is fundamentally pro-adoption.There are some practical suggestions that should be avoided. While art and art therapy is evidenced based as being very helpful and facilitating, instructing a young child for a task to draw a picture of her/himself and then draw a hole in the center to visualize the psychological and relational hole in her fundamental self and life circumstance and personal history is really not supportable. If a child produces that kind of picture(s), unsolicited, that is clinical content and should be treated as such.My position is a family, whatever that structure looks like, but it always is fundamentally constructed of one established adult who is committed and connected in a permanent, loving, relational, reliable, expressive way to the child/youth and their safety, healing and growth, unconditionally, is ALWAYS better than a group home and foster care.I would read this as a 'for consideration or general awareness' in terms of some of the challenges that MAY arise for some adopted children, but possibly not for all children. There are just too many intervening and influencing factors, including the fundamental personality, psychology, and specific pre/post adoption experience of the adopted child/adult, as well as you, the adopting parent, whoever you are. All in all, a solid book addressing some powerful issues.

Though this is an informative book I felt guilty while reading it because I adopted my two children around 28-30 years ago when adoption was romanticized and you didn't give your kids an opportunity to grieve the fact that they were given up by their birthmother. 'Don't think my daughter has major issues from her closed adoption but, then again, her birthparents looked for her and found her! I do, however, think my grown son has issues related to his adoption but he is quiet and has never mentioned them. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to those who are adopting children today, no matter what age they are when adopted!!!

If you are at all involved in adoption - care giver, adoptee, social worker, counselor, friend - then read this. This one book will equip you with the ability to unpack your own thoughts on the matter, as well as care for those who are involved with greater empathy.

My wife and I both read the book. The author has one main point which she examines from a number of different vantages. That key point is that all adopted children have a pain or a void, a feeling of being abandoned, that will likely manifest itself in a myriad of different ways such as anger, depression, etc. She maintains that this is the case even if a child has never expressed any pain or doubts about the adoption. Our own child has known about their adoption from the beginning and never expressed any concerns. However, after reading the book we can see signs that there is some insecurity on their part. In little ways there were signs that there was something deeper (the feeling of abandonment). We're exploring that now.I gave the book 4 stars. Some might give it 5. I value what the book says but feel it could have been better organized and possibly better summarized in places. Overall, if you have an adopted child I recommend you purchase and read this book. You might be surprised about what your own children are going through and not saying anything.

Gathered some insights but a ridiculously negative take on adoption. I do not recommend for a new adoptive parent.

I wasn’t sure at first if the book was going to catch my attention and hold it. This story definitely held my attention and I wanted to find out what would happen next. The characters were relatable because whether you have plenty of money or you don’t people have their struggles and need to find the best way to get past them if possible.The book is well written. Emotions were all over the place for the characters. The chemistry between Laz and Ayla was off the charts.I recommend this great read. Follow the journey that they both take and if it leads to them being together or going their separate ways. i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the fifth book in the Baby Fever series, but they can be read as a standalone. Laz was a cop until he left the force to take a job as a ranger after his personal life suffered after a divorce from his mental ill wife. She divorced Laz and he was blindsided, he was standing by her, hoping for her to get better. A few years later, Laz was happy to be in the mountains alone. When Ayla goes to a resort in the mountains for a bachelorette party of a friend, she really didn't want to go and she is having a terriible time. Ayla gets drunk the first night and wanders into a bar, where she is told to leave. Laz was there and makes sure she gets back to the resort. The next day, Ayla is in an even worse mood and after fighting with her friends, she wanders off and gets lost. When Laz finds Ayla, she begs him not to take her back to the resort, so he takes her to his place. They have a connection and after Ayla explains she doesn't want to be at the resort and wants to be with him, Laz gives into his attractions. They have a great day, until Laz realizes he is late for work and learns Ayla was reported missing. If anyone learns Ayla was with Laz, he could lose his job and he asks he to lie. When Laz's ex-wife shows up, Ayla sees her and thinks he was lying about being married. I enjoyed this story, i thought Ayla was a little lost and wanted more out of life. I thought Laz was a good guy who had overcame a bad situation and needed to move one. I loved them together and thought they had great chemistry. Good one.

The story was engaging and I loved how Dr. Maskalyk weaved his grandfather's story when time was slow, simple, and meaningful into the demands of the emergency room with everything versus the demands of another emergency room that was simple in its infrastructure yet so complex in its needs. I do not yet know Dr. Maskalyk, but he is my cousin and his grandfather is my uncle. Uncle Michael is the last of 13 children living from an era bygone... and my cousin captures this beautifully as an anchor in his own life.
